The Fifth Province is not anywhere here or there, north or south, east or west. It is a place within each one of us – that place that is open to the other, that swinging door which allows us to venture out and others to venture in.

Ancient legends divided Ireland into four quarters and a ‘middle’, although they differed about the location of this middle or fifth province. While Tara was the political centre of Ireland, tradition has it that this Fifth Province acted as a second centre, a necessary balance.

If I am a symbol of anything I would like to be a symbol of this reconciling and healing Fifth Province.

– Mary Robinson, President of Ireland, 3rd December 1990

The Tuatha Dé Danann or Tuath Dé, who existed at a time when magic flowed freely through the cracks into our world. At a time when it was obvious to everyone that we were part of the world around us. That it gave us life and could take it away at any moment. Depriving this planet of the protection of the gods. Leaving it at the mercy of our star, which we call the Sun.

Without the flowing life-giving energy, this world is doomed to turn into a barren desert.

And when you listen to the wind. When you tune your mind to the rhythm of the universe, perhaps you will be able to hear what the gods are talking about.

A story about the eternal struggle between what today’s people call the solar wind and the planet’s magnetosphere.

Ériu and her sisters knew that the time of the Milesians had come. That in the rhythm of infinity, which can be compared to the sea waves breaking on the shore, the waves would come tearing trees out with their roots. However, this too would pass. Because after every storm, even the worst. A sunny and clear day comes.

And so it has been since the beginning of the world.

Our world.

The constant dance between the ebb and flow.

The gods are doing their dance regardless of what we think about it.

So it’s only a matter of time before we reach the era when the Sun throws off its current shell and becomes a demon of destruction…

Billions of years are ahead of us so we don’t have to be afraid of that.

Let’s take care of the trees and everything will be fine…
