Moscow 1944

The crane was told he should feel grateful simply for still being alive…

These were some of the words Winston Churchill used during his meeting in Moscow with Stalin (Russia) and Mikołajczyk (Poland)

Words spoken to Poland by Churchill:

Accusations of madness: “I feel as if I were in a lunatic asylum!”

Questioning Poland’s contribution to the war: “In the last war more Poles fought against us than for us. […] What is your contribution to the Allied effort in this war?”

Threats of breaking off relations: “I don’t know whether the British government will continue to recognise you.”

Accusations of unrealism: “You are utterly incapable of facing facts. I have never seen people like you in my life.”

Abandoning responsibility: “If you intend to conquer Russia, by all means – but do it on your own!”

And so Poland, having chosen the wrong ally, became a colony – a nation shackled in chains…
